Foods Arthritis Sufferers Should Avoid

There are certain foods that may worsen arthritis symptoms. Certain foods may trigger inflammation in your joints which will cause greater pain if you have arthritis. Maintaining a balanced and healthy diet is best for everyone’s health but especially if you have a condition such as arthritis.
Below are some trigger foods you should avoid.
Processed Foods – Avoid prepackaged meals and snacks. These processed foods contain trans fats to hep preserve them and the trans fat can cause inflammation in addition to being bad for your overall health.
Refined Sugars – Candy, sodas and some breakfast cereals are just a few examples of foods with high amount of refined sugar that you should avoid. Foods that are high in sugar cause your body to release chemicals that cause inflammation in arthritis sufferers.
Alcohol – Too much alcohol can cause inflammation as well as other health issues. Studies are mixed with moderate alcohol consumption in relation to arthritis as you may need to experiment with what works best for you.
High-Fat Dairy – Foods such as cheese, butter and mayonnaise are high in saturated fats and can be triggers for inflammation and arthritis pain. However some dairy such as Greek yogurt can actually reduce inflammation.
Foods high in Purine – People who suffer from gout, a form of arthritis, should avoid foods with purine as this may increase uric acid levels in the blood which will cause a gout attack. Foods such as liver, beer or other grain alcohol, cured meats such as bacon and ham and some seafood such as mussels and scallops all contain purines.
There is no “arthritis diet”, what works for one person may not work for another, a bit of trail and error will be needed to figure out what foods you need to remove from your diet. In general if you avoid foods with inflammatory fats such as trans fats and saturated fats as well as avoiding foods high in sugar it should not only improve the inflammation and pain caused by arthritis but also help with your overall health. Read the ingredients and nutrition labels on products. By making a few simple changes or choices you can help relieve your arthritis pain naturally!
